Khayla (she/her) and Heather (she/her) had a dream Fall wedding in upstate New York where they also live. They’re big WNBA fans (Go Liberty!) and love to hang out, watch tv, and cook. After scouring Pinterest for wedding suits, Khayla found her dream Georgie Navy Suit for their special day! The couple graciously shared more beautiful details about their dream wedding day with us. Read on!
How did you two meet?
We met at work. Heather was just hired. I (Khayla) walked into the break room and thought to myself “wow she’s really pretty”. Months later I asked her to go to the movies with me and she bailed! To this day I can never look at Pitch Perfect 3 the same. I asked her out again months after and SHE SHOWED UP! We had a great date and a few days later I asked her to be my girlfriend. Now, almost 5 years later, we’re stronger than ever!
What was important to you in planning your wedding day?
I think it was just finding the right venue and SAVING! We were engaged for 2 years and within those 2 years we saved up enough money to have our dream wedding. We wanted to show our friends and family that we COULD do this on our own. As far as the venue, the Grandview in Poughkeepsie was THE ONE. We went on a tour and saw the ins and outs of the venue and just simply fell in love with it. As soon as we walked outside to the outdoor portion of the venue our jaws dropped! You had a beautiful view of the train, the boats, the river and the mountains. It was honestly breathtaking.
How did you go about choosing what to wear for the wedding day?
Pinterest! I knew since I was a young girl that I wanted to wear a suit on my wedding day. I was NEVER drawn to wearing a dress or taking my mom with me to go dress shopping. That wasn’t me and I knew it from a very young age. I searched high and low to find a place that made suits for my body type. I honestly had an unsettling feeling that I would have to go to a men's store and pick out a suit for my wedding day. No matter how comfortable you may be with yourself there’s always that voice in the back of your mind saying something negative and making you feel so uncomfortable. But during one of many late night searches for my suit I came across someone’s board and they tagged or highlighted that they got their suit from Kirrin Finch. I went on the website and absolutely fell in love with it. Not only did I find my suit (The Georgie Navy Suit) but I found a community that gets me.
How did you feel when you first saw yourself in your wedding suit?
OMG! I felt like no one could tell me ANYTHING. I felt so good in my suit. The detail on the inside of the jacket sold me.
Any advice for other couples planning their wedding?
Saving! Saving! MORE SAVING! Also planning and collaborating on what you both want on your wedding day. It’s NEVER too soon to start that. You don’t need the fancy wedding planning books and the over complicated spreadsheets/websites. Each month there needs to be some kind of goal you want to meet. Within that month you chip away at that goal. We also got great advice from our venue and they helped us along the way. Thank you Taylor, Lauren and Erin!
