Real Weddings: Jules & Michelle

Jules' (she/her) and Michelle’s (she/her) wedding at Lambs Hill in Beacon, NY, was a joyful celebration of love, style, and togetherness. Surrounded by nature and their rescue dogs, they crafted a day filled with music, dancing, and unforgettable memories. Join us as we dive into their beautiful love story and the moments that made their day special.

Tell us about yourselves!

We live in Westchester, NY with our two rescue dogs Dr. Bailey and Pepper Potts. Jules is a graphic designer and Michelle is an event planner. We love outdoor activities, especially those that can include our girls.

How did you two meet?

If you know me or Michelle, you know that a dad joke is the key ingredient to a good laugh for us. When we swapped our dad jokes with one another on a dating app, we were hooked! These jokes lead us to our first date where Michelle ate hot wings so cleanly I was astonished. Later that night, my dogs, Dr. Bailey and Pepper Potts, were introduced to this strangely clean eater and the rest was history. I like to say Michelle was the date that showed up and never left… Michelle says that she immediately knew I was the one. (Typical responses for the two of us). Fast forward to January 12, 2023 on a weekend getaway to Lake Placid, I used Michelle’s love of snow and Pepper Potts to propose by tying the ring on the collar of Miss Potts while on a wintry stroll. Though it did take quite a few attempts for Michelle to notice, we were later engaged that mid-day.

What was important to you in planning your wedding day?

When planning our wedding, we found that the most important elements were food and music. Of all the weddings we’ve been to, these two components of a wedding often reflect the couple’s personalities and set the tone for the entire celebration, so we wanted to prioritize them. A great meal ensures your guests feel taken care of and enjoy the experience, while the right music keeps the energy high and the dance floor packed. Focusing on these two aspects helped create a memorable and joyful atmosphere for everyone and for us!

How did you go about choosing what to wear for the wedding day?

We wanted to find something that we both could wear at the wedding that would reflect both our personalities and allow us to be comfortable at our reception to dance the night away – matching shoes were the winner! We immediately decided on white Converse for Michelle and white Vans for Jules (our favorites for each of us). We chose matching rainbow soles to represent our pride of being a same-sex couple (Jules isn’t huge on colors but wanted just this little whisper to represent). Jules ended up wearing her Vans for the wedding ceremony and reception, which was a game time decision, as she’d planned on doing a shoe change from the Tomboy Toes Oxford shoes she had picked out. Michelle wore blue heels for her “something blue” for the ceremony, and changed into her Converse for the reception.

How did you feel when you first saw yourself in your wedding outfit?

I (Jules) wore the Kirrin Finch suit, and I felt comfortable. I get self conscious just like anyone else about certain aspects of my body, but I really love how Kirrin Finch's clothing fits. If I could I would wear this stuff every day, I would!

Which Kirrin Finch pieces did you wear?

The Georgie Charcoal Vest, The Georgie Charcoal Dress Pants.

What were some of the most special memories from your wedding day?

For Michelle it was seeing me (Jules) for the first time down the aisle. We had spent the whole morning apart to keep the surprise. Also, dancing to our favorite songs on the dance floor with our friends and family.

Any advice for other couples planning their wedding?

Take your time. If something doesn't work out the way you want it to, it will all be okay. The most important thing to remember is this day is about you and your partner, and nothing else matters.
