Real Weddings: Jenna & Kristen

Real Weddings: Jenna & Kristen

Jenna and Kristen's love story began with a chance meeting in Paris that culminated in a nature themed celebration at Valley Green Inn in Pennsylvania. With a focus on community, DIY florals, and our perfect Sage suit, their wedding was a true
reflection of their shared journey!

Tell us about yourselves! (Where do you live, what do you do for work and fun, etc.)

Hi everyone, we're Jenna and Kristen! We proudly reside in Philadelphia, PA where we spend our free time crafting, hosting dinner parties with our chosen family, birdwatching in nearby nature reserves, and scheming our next adventure together. We love to travel, which you will see is a core aspect of our love story.

How did you two meet?

It was completely serendipitous. We were both in university at the time—Jenna in San Diego, Kristen in Philadelphia. We met through a mutual friend while traveling separately in Paris. It was 100% a skinny love situation: our trips ended and neither of us worked up the nerve to make a move. We returned to our lives but couldn't stop thinking about each other. We reconnected a year later on a trip to Iceland, and we've been inseparable ever since.

What was important to you in planning your wedding day?

We eloped privately prior to our big wedding, so when we celebrated with our friends and family we wanted to prioritize our community and the love that surrounds us. During our ceremony we included community vows, which involved our officiant asking our guests to echo back "We do's" in response to promises to support us as a united family.

How did you go about choosing what to wear for the wedding day?

I (Jenna) already knew I wanted to wear Kirrin Finch. I had bought several pieces before and they very quickly became my most worn items (I work for a corporate law firm, so dressing sharp is important). While Kristen wore her dress from our elopement, I wasn't super thrilled with my previous (non-Kirrin Finch) suit. I made the classic error of going to a suit shop that did not specialize in suits for the AFAB/LGBT+ bodies. Even though it was custom tailored, it just wasn't right. I ended up spending a lot of my elopement day adjusting and fidgeting. I was keen to not make that mistake again and I knew KF would deliver.

How did you feel when you first saw yourself in your wedding suit?

I had an immediate sigh of relief. The fit was perfect for my curves. The sage suit aligned perfectly with our garden-party/nature theme and just happened to be my favorite color.

Which Kirrin Finch pieces did you wear?

I wore the Georgie Sage Suit Blazer and Dress Pants and the Addams White Easy-Care Dress Shirt.

What were some of the most special memories from your wedding day?

We DIY'd our flowers, so the day prior we had a flower party where our wedding party and our moms helped us put together the bouquets, boutonnieres, and bud vases. It was so much fun and saved us a whole lot of money.

Day of, we privately got ready together. We had an incredibly chill morning listening to our favorite jazz playlist and it set the perfect tone for our day.

At the end of the night we had a second slow dance which was just as special as our first. It gave us an extra opportunity to connect and soak in the moment at the end of our whirlwind day.

Any advice for other couples planning their wedding?

It’s your day—do it your way. Don’t sweat the small stuff, because at the end of the day it is all about celebrating your love with the people you love. And, if you’re having a bigger wedding, you may not get many chances to eat. We had our venue coordinator prepare a plate of our hors d'oeuvres and signature cocktails for us to enjoy right after the ceremony. It was a lifesaver.
