Making The Perfect Menswear-Inspired Button-Up Even Better

Making The Perfect Menswear-Inspired Button-Up Even Better

We started this adventure with the idea to design button-up shirts with a menswear aesthetic, but engineered to fit the curves and shape of the female form. In mid 2015, we made our first prototype and then continued to iterate on it and test it on a variety of body types until we felt it was ready for release in February of 2016. Since then we have have sold hundreds of shirts and had tons of feedback from our amazing customers that leads us to make a small tweak to our current shirt fit to make it even better.

Our original design included a little triangular gusset on each side of the shirt. This looked great and provided an additional area to add a fun pop of color, but sometimes that little triangle poked out a smidgen and made the bottom of the shirt flair a tiny bit.

Since we are striving for a straighter cut than a typical women's shirt, we worked with our fabulous patternmaker, Maya Blevins, to remove the gusset and pull in the hips a smidgen to give the shirt a straighter, more tailored cut.

Our fall winter shirt collection for 2017 will feature a variety of bold and bright flannel plaids reminiscent of what you see in the men's section (e.g. yellow and navy buffalo check below), as well as a new addition to our growing shirt collection, including a mandarin collar shirt. All new shirts will feature this straighter shirt cut which we believe makes our perfect button-up literally perfect!
