 HOW DID YOU TWO MEET?

We actually met when we were 16! We had a mutual best friend & often hung out at birthday parties or school events. Fast forward 5 years, after college, we reconnected via the same best friend and slowly went from best friends to roommates to dating to engaged to married.

WHAT WAS IMPORTANT TO YOU IN PLANNING YOUR WEDDING DAY?

We wanted to make sure our wedding was a celebration of queer love & joy. We also wanted to make sure that our personalities were reflected in the evening & that everyone felt safe to have a good time!!

CHEN, HOW DID YOU GO ABOUT CHOOSING WHAT TO WEAR FOR THE WEDDING DAY?

I knew I wanted to wear a suit but not a generic, itchy, stiff kind. Specifically, I was looking for a linen suit. Hannah started to do some research to find a brand that was queer owned and made suits for afab bodies. They stumbled upon an article that mentioned Kirrin Finch and it was pretty much love at first sight. I adored the light blue linen suit because it matched Hannah’s dress perfectly. I knew it had to be the one.

Hannah found their dress via Instagram. They saw someone wearing a beautiful dress by Nor Black Nor White and decided to look into the brand. When they saw the dress they knew it was the one they would wear to the wedding.

HOW DID YOU FEEL WHEN YOU FIRST SAW YOURSELF IN YOUR WEDDING SUIT?

I felt extremely validated but also knew I would be able to “get jiggy with it” on the big day! I also felt really proud & powerful. In that moment I was inspired to don the trans flag colors as a nod to how far I've come in my life's journey. I paired the suit with a blush vest & a white button up to complete the look. The suit was everything I'd hoped it would be & more!

ANY ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

Do what you want! Have some tradition if you choose, or throw it all out the window. It is your special day & doing what feels authentic to your love is the most important thing. Have fun! This is your celebration.
