The Inside Scoop on Life, Tattoos, Acting

Jeanna Han was born in Hollywood, CA and was raised by her aunt and grandmother in Southern California. Growing up she envisioned working as a vet. Today you can still find her roaming the hills of California with her dog, but her birthplace seems to have sparked an acting career that she never could have imagined.

Shy by nature, Jeanna has always been more comfortable behind the camera, but after landing her first acting gig on the tv show, Scream Queens, she found herself on the other side of the lens. She quickly realized it was actually pretty fun! We connected with Jeanna while she was in NYC shooting for an indie film called Lust Life

DESCRIBE HOW YOUR STYLE EVOLVED OVER TIME

In elementary school, you’d find me wearing baggy basketball clothes, and even at that young age I was sporting boxers. In middle school, I transitioned from jock to skater and then something happened freshman and sophomore year of high school. My aunt suddenly decided that I would be her Barbie doll and she wanted to dress me and do my hair. Her influence brought on a distinctly more feminine style, but one I wasn't comfortable with. As junior and senior year rolled around, I cut my hair short, put it into a funky Mohawk, threw on a studded belt and gave my wardrobe over to the styles of punk and scene.

WHAT IS YOUR STYLE LIKE NOW?

At age 18, I left for college and started really coming into my own. I used to be way more shy, but fashion and clothes really helped me express myself. Today, I finally feel comfortable in my own skin. Now, on a normal day around town, you’d find me out in a cut off tank top, jeans and black boots. To dress it up for a night out, I’ll throw on a short sleeve button up shirt. I prefer to go the short sleeve route because I tend to get over heated easily, but it's also a great way to show case both the aesthetics of the top as well as the tattoos!

Even though I’m a Californian at heart, I feel like I fit right in to the NYC scene with my tendency to rock the black look from top to bottom. But after a trip to the Kirrin Finch office, I’m officially a floral convert!

TELL US A BIT ABOUT THOSE AMAZING TATTOOS

My first tattoo was 5 large sparrows with their wings spread along the left side. I got it right after I left home to remind myself to spread my wings and fly…I haven’t stopped getting them since. Each tattoo gets a lot of thought, and they all have meaning behind them. I mean, they are permanent!

My right arm is covered in Orchids because they are my grandmother’s favorite flower. On one of the petals sits a little ladybug that represents my aunt Rosemary. On the back of my left arm, I have some Korean script that reads “daddy’s masterpiece”. Growing up, my father always referred to me as his best creation and would constantly call out to me that way. My left arm is also accompanied by some strong female characters including a Native American warrior in a wolf headdress. On my back, I have a tattoo of an artist’s interpretation of a compilation of my step-mother’s artwork. It is an ongoing project that never quite seems to be completed!

WHAT'S LIFE LIKE WORKING AS AN ACTOR ON SET?

Some folks don’t realize it but there are so many different aspects and people involved in making one film! Just a single camera may have 2-3 people working it. Not to mention, in the other room you've got the director, producer, hair/makeup team, wardrobe… I mean the list goes on! Shooting one short scene could actually take a full day considering the fact that they have to all setup and get the blocking right. Kudos to all involved because it really is a process. As an actor, obviously you need to memorize your lines, but the hardest part is making sure you aren’t just reciting them. There must be some emotion and conviction behind what is being said. You have to act!

LASTLY, IF YOU HAD TO GIVE ONE PIECE OF ADVICE WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Put in work and never give up on your dreams! This applies to life and in acting. Sometimes it may take a while before you see your dreams becoming a reality but if you put in the time and work hard, the end results will all be worthwhile
